Fasting Day 2
As i noted before i was fasting food until saturday but i stoped early, i do however do not see this as a failure for i completed my first ever food fast!, i will continue to however fast the internet becasue i have had so much extra free time to spend with God, and wow has that been amazing! I have finally got a devotions routine going and God has been speaking to me heaps! So here is what God has told me today.
The call of God
Jonah 1:3-5
"3 But Jonah ran away from the Lord and headed for Tarshish. He went down to joppa, where he found a ship bound for port, After paying the fare, he went aboard and sailed for Tarshish to flee from the Lord.
4 Then the LORD sent a great wind on the sea, and such a violent storm arose that the ship threatened to break up. 5 All the sailors were afraid and each cried out to his own god. And they threw the cargo into the sea to lighten the ship"
From these three verses i got a few points to share:
1. It costs us to run: In saying it costs us to run, im not talking about the good cost, of perhaps having to sacrifice things in order to please God, im talking about the bad costs, where things in our life take its toll in a negative way.
Jonah 3 says 'after paying a fare' I use this representation even though it may seem small and insignificant, but in this verse fleeing God actually cost jonah something, though that something may have only been a physical thing, it still did cost jonah! Fleeing the Lord also costs us, it may cost us friendships, time and even money! Fleeing the call of God on our life is something that will always have negative responses.
2. Fleeing doesn't get us anywhere: Jonah was runing off to Tarshish, but he never arrived at his destination, because God had called him to prophesy to nineva! God will go to all lengths to see us respond to the call he has on our life! What is the Tarshish in your life? Are you fleeing God for something else? Perhaps you are called to full time ministry and you are choosing to ignore the call and work somewhere else, Perhaps you are called to work in a secluar job and you take up a role in full time ministry. Both of those are examples of fleeing the call of God on our life. Stop running to Tarshish and head to Nineva!
3. Fleeing the call is dangerous: Fleeing the call of God on our life is a dangerous thing, as we read above, God sent violent storms to disturb the ship and the ship almost split apart! It's a dangerous thing to ignore the call of God on our life! it is very dangerous to walk outside the will of God on our life! so if you are one that is called, don't deny it, pray about it, becasue you don't know the damage that walking outside the call can do!
Life challenge: Jonah ignored God's call on his life because he didn't think the ninevites were deserving of hearing about God! They were seen to be a very revolting nation but they were still loved by God and God still wanted them to hear about his saving grace. When Jonah ran he was only thinking about himself! Is God calling you to minister to someone that you may see as disgusting or undeserving of hearing about him? Don't think about yourself, Don't deny the call Go and head to Nineva so that you may see the redeeming power of Christ!
God bless

I hope i'm not disgusting or undeserving!
Although...
We're all underserving of God's love and forgiveness, hence the word grace! YAY!
Glad to see God is shedding his light on new things for you during your fasting!
But still, your online presence is being missed by all!
thats funny.. I was thinking of preaching this passage soon. You may have just given me some ideas!
Grace.
How was Jonah going to say anything about Jesus - he was speaking 800 years before Jesus was born, and the idea of the Messiah was still some way off. Jonah had something to say, but it certainly wasn't about Jesus!
Hey there Jakey boy,
I have set up a profile! Will let you know if I think of anything to say.
Hey anonoymus, thanks for the comment, i did fix it up. It is true that Jesus in human flesh wasnt around at the time of Jonah and i do know that, just a mistype, however Jesus has been around since all eternity as part of the Godhead.
God bless mate
Everytime i try to diet, it never works, id give in by like 3 hours later to macdonalds or something lol. I also have a deep lack of self control =P
I'd only fasted for the first time a few months back.. it was really different, definately not easier, but i reckon i was more stronger because i was doin it for God.
But yeah fasting food is definately not easy. Good on you for fasting the time you did though =) Its never easy.
Enjoy the rest of your internet fasting!
Bless ya xx
Thinking about how Jonah trys to run from God's will and plan for him has made me realise that i cant stray far from God's will which im always scared that i will do without even realising it. Because if God wants you to do something he's not going to give up easily.
p.s. jake i think your awesome.
